What is Reiki

“Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy, and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing, This tradition was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience, and dedication.

Reiki energy is found in everybody, everyone is born a natural healer however not a wide range of people understand how to use their natural abilities to heal people. Reiki is not to be joked around with as it can easily influence your bodies natural flow especially if you do provide professional Reiki Healing on clients and don't take it seriously. The practice is taught by Reiki masters / teachers who have trained in the tradition passed on in person from master to student.

Treatment

The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a couch or sits on a chair and relaxes. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body.

Result

The result of Reiki Healing is hard to say as everyone receives a different outcome. With every one person, the feeling is never the same as the session before. On my first session of Reiki, I felt deeply relaxed, I almost sank into the cushions that were spread around me as I was in a trance-like state which gave me much comfort. This relaxation is a form of meditation for some people as it sets them off on a journey of which they are not fully awake but is still in the presence of the Reiki Healer. I remember feeling so deeply relaxed that my body felt foreign to my head, I couldn't feel my fingers and toes but It didn't scare me. It only made me feel heavy, loose on my skin which was the most surreal feeling.

Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colors, whilst others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.

To some people, because Reiki is the passing of and receiving energy may feel emotional releases when they receive Reiki because of deep emotional ties rooted in the hips and the chest area. If you find that Reiki is emotional it may be that you're holding onto deep desires you fear to let go of in which case you feel disconnected so you push it to the back of your mind which if left untreated can cause an emotional string into your life, relationships that haven't quite faded just yet and memories you can't seem to accept. All of the above is a sign that we are human and we feel pain, pain which is meant to be felt but also acknowledged and released into the world so it doesn't linger in your body and cause you discomfort.

What do Reiki treatments do?

Reiki is a safe and soothing treatment that can be:

~ Comforting when life is tough

The relaxing nature of Reiki can be very helpful to people especially at difficult times in our lives. We can all feel overwhelmed or disconnected, sometimes there is a real sense of isolation, both emotionally and spiritually. Reiki treatments can bring feelings of peace, centeredness and an ability to cope better with the challenges of life.

Reiki can be beneficial in circumstances that are short term but can also support people dealing with long-standing conditions, helping to bring comfort, acceptance and a more positive outlook.

~ Calming for children Children usually love Reiki. The length of a session is often shorter than it would be for an adult.

~ Helpful at the end of life In such cases Reiki can be a great comfort, helping to promote a sense of peace and acceptance for the dying and their families.

"As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself"
